Get Ready For THE BOURNE LEGACY Without Jason Bourne

What the holy heck, Matt Damon will NOT be starring in The Bourne Legacy as Jason Bourne!  Tony Gilroy made a confirmation to the story that was run recently by Deadline. He stated that the films story will not be the same as "The Bourne Legacy" from Robert Ludlum. The films only similarity is its name, other than that the story will be completely different.

According to Gilroy,

"It's a completely original screenplay." Secondly, "This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one's replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter...this is a stand-alone project.

He goes on to say that,

"Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he's very much alive. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens. I'm building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy...the world we're making enhances and advances and invites Jason Bourne's return [down the road].

Are you completely confused at this point. You are probably not alone, but if you think about it this makes sense. Universal is wanting to make an offshoot film utilizing the same material and expanding the world in which Bourne and Treadstone live in without ruling out Matt Damon returning as Jason Bourne for a true fourth film in the franchise.

If anyone can pull this off it is Gilroy, he has been the writer for all three films thus far and the architect of the Bourne and his story on screen. It may seem like a gamble for Gilroy and Universal, but it could also pay off in a big way.

I loved all three of the first films not only because of Damon's portrayal of Jason Bourne, but because of the mystery, suspense and action. There is something so intriguing to a big conspiracy, the man behind the curtain pulling all the strings and that is why I believe that this film could be a success. The big question is will fans of Damon and Jason Bourne be along for the ride. This fan will be, will you?
