Zooey Deschanel to Play Betty Brant in SPIDER-MAN Reboot?
A new casting rumor for Marc Webb's Spider-Man 3D reboot has surfaced, and it would reunite the director with (500) Days of Summer actress Zooey Deschanel.
According to Showbiz Spy, Webb is looking to cast Deschanel in the role of of J. Jonah Jameson's secretary at the Daily Bugle, Betty Brant. This is a character that was played by Elizabeth Banks in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films, but it wasn't really that big of a part. According to inside sources, this character will have a much bigger role in the reboot.
Betty was a minor character in the previous Spidey movies but Marc has big plans for her. He wants a strong performer to carry the role and Zooey fits the bill perfectly. The role is hers if she wants it.
In the 1960's comics, Betty Brant was Peter Parker's first love interest, but there's no word on if that is the route that Webb will take the character. I doubt it, since Peter Parker is in high school and Betty is an adult secretary. That could be a little weird.
Deschanel is a great actress, and if this rumor turns out to be true, she would make a great addition to the cast of the film, which includes, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
