Gerard Butler and Antoine Fuqua to Develop AFTERBURN

Movie by Joey Paur

300 star Gerard Butler and Training Day director Antoine Fuqua are currently in negotiations with Relativity Media to develop a new film called Afterburn

This film will be an adaptation of the comic book created by Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood. The sci-fi saga takes place a year after a solar flare burns half the surface of a planet, and treasure hunters return to retrieve what's left of value.

The script was written by Into the Blue scribe Matt Johnson, and according to Deadline they will bring in A Man Apart scribe Christian Gudegast to do a rewrite. The movie's being produced by Neal Moritz, Tobey Maguire, Toby Jaffe and Jenno Topping

Fuqua just directed the cop drama Brooklyn's Finest and Butler just finished shooting the Marc Forster directed film, Machine Gun Preacher.

Here's a description of the comic:

Afterburn, is a sci-fi adventure based on books published by Red 5 Comics, is set against the backdrop of a postapocalyptic Earth whose Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels while facing rival hunters, mutants and pirates.
