Gore Verbinski Officially Directing THE LONE RANGER

Earlier this year it was reported that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski might end up directing the big screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger for Disney. It's now being reported that Verbinski has been officially locked in to direct the film!

Johnny Depp was already cast in the role of Tonto, the Lone Ranger's sidekick. There's no word on when the film will begin production or who'll end up taking on the role of The Lone Ranger yet. I'm sure that news will follow shortly.

The Lone Ranger's origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto, who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice.

I've enjoyed most of Verbinski's work, and I think this will be a great project for him to work on.

What do you think of Verbinski directing The Lone Ranger?
