Mark Wahlberg To Star In UNCHARTED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE

It has just been announced that Mark Wahlberg will play hero Nathan Drake in an adaptation of Uncharted: Drake's Forturne for David O. Russell. Wahlberg confirmed the role in a recent interview with MTV.  In the interview he also adds some backing to the casting rumors that Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci will be joining the cast.

Here is what Wahlberg said,

"David is one of the best writer/directors I've ever worked with. The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we'll be making that movie this summer."

Wahlberg  has collaborated with Russell on Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees and most recently The Fighter.  Uncharted will likely be their biggest budgeted film to date.  According to Wahlberg the rumors circulating that Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are joining the film is correct.  The actor said the following about the subject,

"That's who he wants to write the parts for. I talked to Pesci about it and I know David's people have talked to [Robert De Niro]. I'm obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It's not going to be the watered-down version, that's for sure."

Based on Wahlbergs statement, the film will be using plot details that did not appear in the video game since none of Drake's family members ever make an appearance. I think that once DeNiro signs on that Pesci will soon follow.  Wahlberg's casting means that Nathan Fillion will not be starring despite tremendous fan support.
