Lionsgate to Distribute New JUDGE DREDD Film
Lionsgate recently announced that they have acquired the distribution rights to the new Judge Dredd film. I'm pretty excited to see how this movie turns out!
Dredd will be directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point). Karl Urban is set to play the title role in the film, and I couldn't be more excited to see what he ends up doing with the character. It was also recently announced that Juno's Olivia Thirlby has been cast as Cassandra Anderson, a character who has psychic powers which include being able to sense approaching danger, foresee events of the near future and telepathy. The $45 million dollar budgeted 3D film project is set to start production on November 12th in Cape Town, South Africa.
The movie takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.
