Will Jeremy Renner be the next Snake Plissken?
According to multiple sources, the producers behind the remake of the classic 1980's John Carpenter film, Escape from New York, want Jeremy Renner to take on the role of Snake Plissken, which was originally played by Kurt Russell. At one point, Timothy Olyphant was considered for the part. He would have been great as Snake, but Renner seems like a better fit.
According to Production Weekly there is an offer out to the actor, but it still isn't clear whether or not he has accepted the role. If he does take it, he will start shooting the movie in early 2011, which means this is something he could do before he starts working on The Avengers, in which he will play Hawkeye.
The Crazies director Breck Eisner is developing the film from a script written by Allan Loeb (21, Wall Street 2). The movie is scheduled to to be released in theaters in 2012.
