NBC Developing PLAYBOY Themed Series

For those of you who read Playboy for the articles, you are in luck because NBC is working on a new drama that will take place in 1960s and revolving around the Playboy clubs.

Originally titled Bunny Tales, the show is now being dubbed simply as Playboy.  It is reported that the series will be about a group of women working as Playboy bunnies in the New York club. The clubs are a backdrop and a sign of the times and will showcase the changing morals of the nation during the sexual revolution. 

Chad Hodge (Tru Calling) is writing and will serve as executive producer for the show which Twentieth Century Fox TV and Imagine TV are behind. Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will also share executive producer duties.

There were 22 original clubs internationally with over million "keyholder" members.  The last original Playboy club closed its doors in Lansing, Michigan in 1988.  The original clubs were famous for their staff of women dressed in bunny outfits like in the picture above.  

It seems as though the networks and cable are trying to capture the same success of AMC's Mad Men. ABC is developing Pan Am which centers on the airline's wild crew in the 1960s, while Starz just gave a 10-episode order to Magic City, set in late 1950s/early '60s Miami.

This new series could not come at a better time for Playboy Enterprises, which is currently trying to revive the franchise. In 2006, The Palms hotel in Las Vegas opened a Playboy Club and a club opened this month in Macao.

This sounds like a unique series idea to me and one that I would be interested in seeing. There is something so cool about the idea of being a "keyholder", so hopefully this show can pass some of the magic on to its viewers.  What are your thoughts of this news?
