Frank Darabont Didn't Fire THE WALKING DEAD Writing Staff

It was recently reported that Walking Dead executive producer Frank Darabont had fired the writers who worked on the awesome first season of the zombie series, including his Number 2 guy, Charles “Chic” Eglee, and that they planned to assign the second season of scripts to freelancers.

According to the shows producer Gale Anne Hurd this news is not accurate. She denied the reports saying,

It’s completely inaccurate. [In] the writers’ room, there are people that have set up other projects that will be their first priority if their own series is picked up as a pilot or if it’s a series. I think [Eglee] just decided that he wants to run his own show.

So it's not that Darabont fired anyone, they are just moving on to other projects. She also confirmed that the actors whose characters survive at the end of season finale are signed up for multiple seasons of the zombie show. Hurd also said the series will probably return in October.

I think Frank and Robert [Kirkman, writer of the Walking Dead comic and an executive producer on the show] will sit down early next year, to begin mapping it out.

It's still sad to see that some of this talented writing staff won't return for season 2. Hopefully they can bring in writers that are equally or more talented.

I hate that there's only one episode left this season!
