$2.99 Blockbuster Express Kiosks Being Tested

Tech by

Have you ever wondered why you can't get DVDs and Blu-Rays from Netflix or Redbox on the day they are released?  The answer is a 28 day waiting period set by the studios so that they can make money off of sales.

Well it looks like that is about to change, at least the studios are willing to try it out.  Blockbuster Express Kiosks have begun their test phase in Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix and San Francisco.   This means that if you live in those cities you can rent Warner Bros. Inception and 20th Century Fox's Knight and Day via a handy dandy kiosk.

The only difference, there will be fee of $2.99 fee per night, nearly threefold increase over Redbox, to rent them. Don't get your hopes up.  This does not mean that you will be able to go to your favorite red kiosk and pick up a new release anytime soon.  Not much else is known at this point.

I am guessing that if this test goes well, Blockbuster Express Kiosks offering these types of new releases will be sprouting up in more cities.  The question is, are you willing to shell out the extra money just to see your favorite film sooner?
