CIRQUE DU SOLEIL 3D Feature Coming From Adamson And Cameron

Director Andrew Adamson and James Cameron have begun working on a a family friendly Cirque du Soleil feature film in 3D.

Deadline is reporting that the film will be a mix of narrative storytelling and Cirque performances captured in 3D from different themed Cirque du Soleil shows in Las Vegas. The story will follow a central character that gets transported into the magical world with the various performances serve as a backdrop.  

Cirque du Soleil is the primary financier of the project with Cameron producing. Reel FX Entertainment partners Cary Granat and Ed Jones, Cirque du Soleil, and Adamson's Strange Weather Films' partner Aron Warner will all be involved in producing this film.

The plan is for this film to be part of a series of family features that incorporate Cirque du Soleil into their storylines. Adamson wrote the story for the first film and he is currently shooting the narrative aspect for the movie in New Zealand. He and Cameron have already filmed some of the Cirque du Soleil performances using 3D cameras.

Major distributors have been shown sample footage of the project, which is already one-third completed. A distributor is expect to come on board the project before production has wrapped.  As of right now, it is not known if this deal will be international or not.  

Adamson is executive producer of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which opens Friday. Cameron has a lot on his plate with directing two more installments of Avatar and producing a remake of Fantastic Voyage at Fox, and the Guillermo Del Toro-directed adaptation of HP Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness for Universal. 

I have seen a performance of Cirque Du Soleil in Orlando and each performance is pretty cool visually. I am sure it will look great on screen, but I am interested to see how the story is incorporated on the big screen.
