Stan Lee to star as Professor X-type character in SUPER SEVEN

Comic Book Stan Lee by Eli Reyes

Marvel legend Stan Lee has teamed up with Archie Comics and A Squared Entertainment for Super Seven, a new comic created by Lee that will star himself, and seven aliens he take's under his wing.

Super Seven tells the story of seven aliens who are stranded on Earth after their spaceship crashes and are then befriended by Stan Lee, who becomes their leader and helps turn them into heroes.

We have to agree with SciFiWire on this one and say that the "wise older man" taking a group of "misunderstood outsiders under his wing" and teaching them to become superheroes, sounds suspiciously and perhaps lazily like one of Lee's other famous comic-creations, the X-Men.

Assuming this Professor Xavier like role, won't be the first time Lee's appeared in his own comics.

Lee explained:

Although I've briefly appeared in other comics, Super Seven is the first time that I'll actually be a continuing character in a far-out, original superhero series.

With Lee's character undoubtedly being based on his real life character creating resume, this could make for some hilarious self spoofing fun that could have Stan using his own comics as reference to help the aliens fit into society -- think The Three Amigos meets Kick-Ass.

Archie Comics will handle publishing the print version of Super Seven when its released this fall, while Andy Heyward's recently launched A Squared will develop the project as a TV series and online property as well as handling merchandising. Super Seven doesn't fall under the agreement Lee's POW! Comics has with Disney.

What do you think of Stan Lee starring in SUPER SEVEN? Is the premise too close to the X-MEN?
