Kate Beckinsale will return for UNDERWORLD 3D but She Still Wants Out

Back in August, when Kate Beckinsale was out promoting the ill fated Whiteout, she seemed pretty adamant that she had not heard anything regarding a new installment in the Underworld franchise. She would know afterall, she starred in the first two films, and is married to creator/director Len Wiseman.

But now Variety has confirmed that Beckinsale will indeed return for Underworld 3D, and that her husband would return as director for the fourth in the series, following up the prequel.

But according to Bloody-Disgusting's sources, Beckinsale is doing everything she can to weasel her way out of the film and her contract -- at the very least, settling for a smaller role that would allow her to "pass the torch" to one of her character's two daughters. No word on whether or not this will indeed kick-off a new trilogy.

You'd think Beckinsale would be exited to return to the franchise that her husband started, and that basically launched her career. She's in need of a sure thing with the slew of misses she's had lately, and a return to the tight black spandex is a sure thing. Either way, things need to be hammered out soon in order to meet the January 21, 2011 release date.
