Trailer for the Jim Sturgess Horror/Thriller HEARTLESS

TrailerMovie by Eli Reyes

Fourteen years after The Passion of Darkly Noon, director Philip Ridley returns with the dark psychological thriller Heartless. We brought you some preview footage a couple of weeks ago, and now Lionsgate has released a new trailer via Yahoo!.

Heartless stars Jim Sturgess (21, Across the Universe), Clémence Poésy (In Bruges, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Noel Clarke (Doctor Who) and Eddie Marsan (Shelock Holmes, Hancock).

Set in East London, Sturgess plays Jamie, a birth-marked, antisocial hero who sees evil in the faces of hooded hoodlums. When his  mother is viciously murdered, the media reports it's by a hoodie wearing a devil mask. But Jamie soon realizes the thugs aren't wearing disguises at all; they really are demons and hell on earth is beginning to plague the capital city. Yet all is not what it seems in enfant terrible Ridley's unique horror fantasy landscape ingeniously informed by the current climate of fear running through every strata of modern society.

With our young hero in creeping around with a hoodie on, it's instantly reminiscent of Donnie Darko. But Heartless looks to have more horror elements to it. It looks almost like Donnie Darko meets Dark City, but unfortunately without the visual flair.

Heartless made the festival rounds to some positive buzz. The movie hits theaters in the UK on May 21st, and will be available on DVD/Blu-ray and Digital Dowload just three days later on May 24th.
