Danny McBride is a L.A.P.I.

Movie Danny McBride by Ben Pearson

Variety reportsDanny McBride (Eastbound and Down, Pineapple Express, Up in the Air, etc.) has been cast in director Jody Hill's next film, L.A.P.I.

Story details are hard to come by, but McBride will play the lead role - a downtrodden hardboiled private investigator (is there any other kind?). The movie will be the first for Rough House Pictures, the new production company started by McBride and his collaborators Jody Hill and David Gordon Green. Writers Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan (who Variety also notes had two films on the 2009 Black List) pitched the idea and will write the script.

I'm really stoked about this development. I'm more of a fan of the Rough House brand of comedy than the Seth Rogen/Judd Apatow brand going around right now, and I'm also a huge fan of film noir; this film is being billed as an "action comedy" but with a title like that and a hardboiled detective as the main character, I'm sure noir fans will find something to like.

How about you? Excited that McBride will be wearing some gumshoes in the near future? Or are you more hyped for the next Apatow production?
