District 9's Neill Blomkamp reveals what he thinks aliens actually look like in his TED Talk
District 9 director Neill Blompamp was given the opportunity to give TED talk at TEDx, one of the independently-organized TED events around the world. Though he wasn't able to make it out there in person, he recorded a video with some pretty amazing visual aids.
By his own admission he felt a little under qualified, as most people asked to give TED Talks usually have a PHD or are the top person in their field. But using the question of, "Are the aliens in District 9 what you think aliens really look like?" he gives a pretty captivating explanation of his theoretical science-driven vision of our universe, life on other planets, and the future of human civilization.
KashifPasta via /Film points out that some of this subject matter is likely a direction for one of Blomkamp's future projects, and I strongly agree.
Blomkamp "guesses" that District 9 was likely the reason he was asked to talk, and the Oscar nominations his film has received -- Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Visual Effects, and Film Editing -- would certainly attest to how impactful it was. This guy has a long career ahead of him, and this talk really showcases how brilliant and methodical of a thinker he is.
