Buried screenwriter Chris Sparling cashes in at the ATM
Buried, the Ryan Reynolds one-man mystery thriller, made quite the splash at Sundance a couple of weeks ago. It was the first major sale at the Festival, with Lionsgate spending $3.2 million for U.S. distribution rights. Venkman wrote a great review for the film, which you can Read Here.
Even though I'm more looking forward to what director Rodrigo Cortés will be doing next, Buried scribe Chris Sparling is off the blocks first, with his spec script ATM, being picked up by his Buried producer, Peter Safran, who'll produce the project with Paul Brooks (A Haunting in Connecticut), through The Safran Co. and Gold Circle Films.
ATM will center on three co-workers who make a routine stop at a (you guessed it) ATM, and unexpectedly end up in a desperate fight for their lives.
One location? No problem for Sparling. At least these guys have full range of motion in their arms. After watching Buried, I have complete faith in the suspense Sparling can build. This may be like that episode in Friends where Chandler gets stuck at the ATM, except there will probably not be a hot girl, and Chandler's life wasn't in danger.
They have brought on short-film director David Brooks (Gone) to helm ATM, who will make his feature directorial debut when lensing begins in the fall.
