Eric Bana to play Saoirse Ronan's father in Joe Wright's HANNA

As we reported early last month, director Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice, The Soloist) will be reuniting with his Atonement star Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, City of Ember) for Hanna, Focus Features' teenage assassin film that will ride the wave of buzz for Kick-Ass' Hit Girl.

Wright and Ronan's drama filled resumes would lead us to believe that this will be a much more serious film than the comic-book superhero inspired Kick-Ass. Now that reports are coming in that Eric Bana is in negotiations to play Ronan’s father, it's certain that the film will be more, as described, a cross between La Femme Nikita and the Bourne movies. That isn't to say Bana can't do comedy, he stole the show in Funny People, with the ten minutes he was in. His tour de force performance in Chopper even had its odd comedic moments. (I also believe the The Time Traveler’s Wife and Hulk were comedies as well... I could be wrong.) But it's safe to assume Bana will be kicking ass like he did in Munich.

Ronan will be taking on the role of a 14-year-old Eastern European girl saved from a CIA breeding camp and raised by her dad to be a cold-blooded killing machine. After finding peace with a French family, the girl is dragged back to her father’s world, and she must fight her way to a free life.

I'm not quite sure if Bana's character is supposed to be bad or good. I guess "dragged" means she probably doesn't want to be killing people. Good for her. Most parents get mad at their kids for quitting sports, school or music, I guess the same goes for assassinating as well. Bana is still just in talks, so we'll keep you up to date with any confirmation when it comes.

What do you think of Eric Bana potentially joining Saoirse Ronan in the father/daughter killing competition?
