That STRETCH ARMSTRONG movie Just got More Ridiculous with the Casting of Taylor Lautner
Is it just me, or is Twilight's Taylor Lautner cast in a new movie ever week? I honestly don't see the appeal, and casting him in all these movies doesn't make me want to go out and see them. But then I guess I'm not the target market. All these casting decisions are geared to get the girls young and old into movie theater seats. Will it work? I don't know because most of the films he's being cast in are more guy type movies.
Launter can now add Universal Picture's Stretch Armstrong on the list of movies he's attached to star in. This is the second film he''s been cast in that involves a toy franchise. He's also cast to star in Paramount Pictures action adventure film Max Steal.
The studio is planning on bring Stretch Armstrong to the big screen in 3D in March 2012. Apparently these studio executives think that Lautner is "the real deal", whatever that means. It certainly can't be for his acting abilities. He has yet to prove he's got any of those. But, remember he's only 17 years old, he's the highest paid teenage actor in Hollywood, and he's still learning and growing as an actor. Who knows where he will be in 10 years.
So what do these studio executives see in him? Universal Co-Chairman Donna Langley say's this,
In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office. He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power. We couldn’t be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch.
Brian Goldner, President and CEO of Hasbro agreed adding,
The addition of Taylor Lautner and the 3-D twist to Stretch Armstrong is sure to pay dividends when the film is released in 2012.
They obviously think this kid is a cash cow. Only time will tell, as soon as one of these many non Twilight films he is attached to star in is released will we know for sure. Twilight had a huge built in audience before it came out, so lets see how he does without Twilight in the title of the movie.
Stretch Armstrong is based on the stretchy action figure made popular around the world beginning in the 1970s and re-launched in the 1990s. Academy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind) will team with Hasbro to bring Stretch Armstrong to life. Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty) has written the screenplay.
You can bet that there's gonna be a Taylor Lautner Stretch Armstrong toy.
What are your thoughts on Taylor Lautner being cast as Stretch Armstrong?
