THE THING Prequel Casting is starting to take shape

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, from the upcoming film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and Joel Edgerton have been cast in the upcoming prequel to the classic sci-fi horror film, The Thing.

Winstead will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage.

Here’s the description we’ve got.

In a remote Antarctica outpost, an alien spaceship is discovered far beneath the ice. When a group of ambitious scientists decide to thaw out one of the creatures inside, they’re in for the terrifying fight of their lives…

They obviously haven’t given us the details that make this movie different from the original. I’m a huge fan of John Carpenters 1982 film, and I hope to hell this prequel will live up to the standards that it set. I’m excited about this movie, it could end up being really good. Commercial Matthijs Van Heijningen is directing the film, from a script that was written by Ronald D. Moore and then re-written by Eric Heisserer.
