Ruben Fleischer to follow up Zombieland with Untitled Cop Comedy

While Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have quickly parlayed the critical and commercial success of the film into other gigs -- Venom, Deadpool, G.I Joe 2 -- director Ruben Fleischer has remained steadfast and patient in finding a worthy follow up -- despite being being courted by every major studio and producer, including offers from Fox to helm 21 Jump Street, MRC for 30 Minutes or Less and even Tom Cruise for M:I IV.

But now Fleischer is ready to get back behind the camera for an untitled action comedy pitch he just sold to DreamWorks, who won out in a heated bidding war that also included Universal, Fox and Warner Bros.

The plot is being kept under wraps, but it is known that it is a buddy cop film.Mike Arnold and Chris Poole (The Grackle, Homeschooled) will script from an idea by Fleischer.

Director Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek) will produced with Gavin Polone. Palone produced Zombieland with Fleischer, and both will reprise their roles behind the camera for Zombieland 2 in 3D.

If Fleischer can breathe new life into the done-to-death (hell yeah pun intended) zombie genre, I have complete faith that he can inject some new life and twists into the buddy cop movie, which we've seen as little as a month ago with Cop Out. What do you think?
