Diablo Cody's Script YOUNG ADULT Gets Picked Up and Apparently it's Jacked Up

Movie Diablo Cody by Joey Paur

The screenwriter of Juno and Jennifer's Body, Diablo Cody, has written a new script called Young Adult, and it was recently optioned by Mandate Pictures. She is teaming back up with the same producing team that she worked with on Juno

The Young Adult storyline follows a thirtysomething, divorced, young-adult fiction writer in Minneapolis who returns to her hometown to chase the ex-boyfriend, who’s now married with a kid, that got away.

According to Cody, the story is pretty messed up, only she uses some more colorful language. She did a very entertaining interview over at Vulture that I suggest you check out, I like how bunt and honest she is, she doesn't sugar coat anything. When asked about this project in the interview she said,

I'm working on a movie about a woman who’s stalking her high-school sweetheart. It has elements of humor, but it’s pretty serious and fucked up. You don’t get to see women be antiheroes that often, where it’s like somebody like Mickey Rourke, who gets a comeback in The Wrestler. It’s rarer that you’ll have a studio say, "Let’s have an actress come back and be ugly!"

So it's going to be like The Wrestler or Crazy Heart but with a woman making the comeback.

What do you all think about what Cody has come up with for this story?
