EASTERN PROMISES Sequel to Film This Winter!!!
Director David Cronenberg has been talking about making a sequel to his flawless crime thriller Eastern Promises since last March, saying then, "We all are excited about the idea of doing a sequel." The "we" of course refers to star Viggo Mortenson and screenwriter Steven Knight.
Now Deadline Hollywood confirms that producer Paul Webster is lining up the Focus Features project in hopes to begin filming this winter! All the aforementioned players are back with Knight already finished penning the untitled sequel to Eastern Promises, which starred Mortenson as the mysterious and charismatic Russian-born Nikolai Luzhin, a driver for one of London's most notorious organized crime families of Eastern European origin. No word on whether or not Naomi Watts will return to reprise her role, which would give us a major clue as to where the story will go after the stunning and edge of your seat events of the first film.
This will mark the first sequel for Cronenberg, and his fourth film with Mortenson, who despite talk of retiring from acting, is showing no signs of slowing down, most recently replacing Christoph Waltz in Cornenberg's Sigmund Freud pic, The Talking Cure. If Viggo is only acting for Cronenberg films, it's not too bad of a loss, considering they've made nothing but gold so far together with A History of Violence and the first Eastern Promises.
What do you think of the team getting back together for EASTERN PROMISES 2???
