Ridley Scott's ALIEN Prequel to be Shot in 3D
If for some reason you haven't heard yet, Ridley Scott is retuning to the Alien franchise to direct a prequel to the film that he directed back in 1978. This was the film that jump started his career as a director. I've been waiting for Ridley Scott to jump back in to directing a sci-fi film, and how awesomely appropriate it is for him to return to sci-fi with directing another Alien film.
Shadowlocked recently spoke with Star Wars and Alien art-director Roger Christian. In the interview he reveals that Scott plans shooting the next Alien film in 3D. I'm not surprised at any of this 3D stuff anymore, just expect it from here on out. After the 3D reveal he went on to say,
Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there’s ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I’m hoping he’ll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it - everybody.
In a previous interview, Scott had this to say about the Alien prequel and when it will take place.
It’s a brand new box of tricks. We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It’s very difficult to put a year on Alien, but [for example] if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior.
I'm really excited for this movie, and with Scott in the directors chair of the franchise that he created, you can't go wrong. As for the movie being shot in 3D, I'm sure it will end up being pretty cool. This kind of world will look great in 3D. Just imagine what the first couple films would have been like in 3D.
