Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane to make R-Rated Comedy about a Teddy Bear

Movie ComedyTED by Joey Paur

Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to a $65 million budget R-Rated comedy called Ted. The script for the film was co-written by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlaneAlec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The comedy will be directed by MacFarlane, which will make Ted his first feature film. I thought for sure the Family Guy movie would be his first, it was expected to be, but not anymore. I'm actually glad he ended up with an original story for his first feature film.

The movie is described as a hard ‘R’ comedy about a man and his teddy bear. The movie will be a mix of live action and CGI. MacFarlane will also co-star and provide the voice for the CG-generated title character Ted. Normally I'm not a big fan of the live-action CGI hybrid films, but if MacFalane is doing it, it's bound to actually be hilarious.

Leave it to MacFarlane to come up with a hard ‘R’ film about a teddy bear. The film is scheduled to go into production sometime this year. MacFarlane’s time is already stretched pretty thin with his work on Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad. The guy is involved very intimately with every episode that is created. So Fox and MacFarlane’s reps are trying to figure out who they can work around his insane schedule.

Fox actually had first dibs on the Ted film, but passed it up because of its R-rating. Regardless of the R-rating, I have a feeling this movie is going to be a huge hit. Macfarlane has a very big following, and if the script is good, and funny then this will most likely end up making a ton of money. There’s always a chance it could flop though if it sucks, but Macfarlane can be a pretty funny dude.

What do you all think about MacFarlane’s idea for his first feature film?
