Joss Whedon to rewrite both THE AVENGERS and CAPTAIN AMERICA Scripts!?

 

We recently reported that Joss Whedon is currently in finial negotiations to team up with Marvel to direct the The Avengers. One thing that wasn’t mentioned until Variety reported the news was that once Whedon officially signs on to direct, he will also be rewriting the script for the project. The script that they currently have was written by Zak Penn (X-Men 3, Fantastic Four, Electra), Yeah, I'd want to rewrite it to. It's really no surprise that Whedon would rewrite it because most directors brought onto a film project get to mess around with the script of the film they will be shooting anyway.

What is surprising, is some new news that comes from Pajiba that reports Whedon will also polish up the script for The First Avenger: Captain America before it starts shooting this summer in London. The original script for the film was written by Christopher Markus and Steven McFeely who wrote the Narnia films. I’ve heard that the Captain America script needs a lot of work so it's good that the script is going to get a polish from a fresh set of eyes.

It makes perfect sense to bring Whedon in to do these rewrites. The guy is mostly known for what he has written and created, and he’s a decent writer that I think has the talent to make these scripts nice and shiny before the films start shooting. Another reason that Whedon rewriting both scripts makes sense is because he will be able to help make a smooth transition connecting the films The First Avenger: Captain America to The Avengers. This can help give the films a consistent tone as well.

It seems like there were a lot more people excited about Joss Whedon directing The Avengers this time around than before when it was rumored, so that’s a good sign, I glad there are people out there that sees that he's got the talent. I think bringing Whedon in to rewrite the scripts for these films is a great idea, it will only help them and make the films better in the long run.
