Geoff Johns Describes Abin Surs Passing of the Ring to Hal Jordan in GREEN LANTERN Film
The defining moment in the story of Green Lantern is when Abin Sur passes the his power ring over to Hal Jordan, and officially deputizes him as a member of the Green Lantern Corps. The film has been in production in New Orleans for a month now, and this momentous scene has already been shot. Comic book writer and DC Entertainment executive Geoff Johns has seen the footage, and here’s what he had to say.
The movie looks fantastic. I'm heading back down to New Orleans in a few weeks, but I just watched the Abin Sur/Hal Jordan dailies, and it's amazing seeing that ring passed to Hal in live action. Abin Sur looks kick-ass. And Ryan Reynolds is a perfect Hal Jordan. He brings a lot of humor to it, but he also has the humanity that Hal has. And a little bit of the arrogance, so it's a great match.
Temuera Morrison from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of The Clones play the part of Abin Sur. Johns then went on to talk about the film’s visual design and production.
They did such a great job. They've got Grant [Major] as a production designer. He's from Lord of the Rings, and the visuals on this film are nothing like you could imagine. It's definitely a Green Lantern fan's dream. For me, it's kind of insane to see this stuff come to life.
If he’s excited about what he’s seeing then it’s gotta be good… right? Of course if it sucks he’s not going to tell us. I think the film is going to end up being pretty damn cool, maybe that's just because I'm a fan of Green Lantern. Johns is then asked about other potential DC superhero films that we are all excited to see brought to life, and here’s his reply.
I can't get into the exact DC slate right now, but we're all working heavily on what that is with Warner Bros. and there will be news forthcoming. But, you can bet there is going to be a lot more than there is right now.
Well I hope there’s going to be more than what we have right now, because right now all we have is Batman, Green Lantern, and Superman. Green Lantern also stars Mark Strong as Sinestro, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond and Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller.
