Leonard Nimoy is Retiring from acting

Leonard Nimoy who is best known for his role as Spock in Star Trek has announced that he’s retiring from acting. He’s talked about retiring a few times before, but this time I think he’s serious. He admits that, “Countless times, I thought it was done.”

The guy is 79 years old and has been in the entertainment business for 60 years! He deserves to retire, and right now he’s made a recent comeback with his role in Fringe and the new Star Trek movie reboot, so he will be going out on top, and not as some washed up actor.

I’ve been doing this professionally for 60 years,” he says with a laugh. “I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I’ve had a great, great time.

It doesn’t look like we will see him in the next Star Trek film in 2012 either. He’s already passed the torch to Zachary Quinto for the role of Spock, and wants to give him his space, let him fully take over the role.

I want to get off the stage. Also, I don’t think it would be fair to Zachary Quinto. He’s a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it’s time to give him some space. And I’m very flattered the character will continue.

It doesn’t look like he’ll be showing up at many more conventions either. He will be at this weekend’s Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, and he’s got a few other public appearances planned, but adds that this “could be the last go-round for that too.” He goes on to describe the conventions he attends as

a love fest. I’m so grateful to the fans. I call these kind of experiences a victory lap ... It’s like having a family meeting — a family reunion.

But he's winding down, and looks like he will just slowly fade out of the spotlight. This guy is legend among fanboys and fangirls, and we all appreciate and love what he's done, but now it's time for him to bow out gracefully on his own terms.
