Disney Announces Release Dates for Pixar's MONSTERS INC. 2 and BRAVE

Movie BraveDisneyPixar by Joey Paur

Don't you just love those Pixar films? Well, we've got two of them being released in the same year. It was announced by Disney today that Pixar's rumored Monster's Inc. 2 and Brave are being released in 2012.

There has been no official announcement of a Monster Inc. 2, and until today we didn't know it was actually happening, but we heard rumors. Way back in Feburary of 2009 we reported a rumor that Up Director Pete Doctor would be directing the sequel to Monsters Inc. At the time it was reported that the film wouldn't be released until 2013. Looks like they date has been moved up a year. There is still no official confirmation that Doctor is directing Monster Inc. 2, but it would be great if he was! We still don't know many details on what the story is about. It will be released November 16th 2012.

As for the film Brave, it was previously titled The Bear and the Bow. This is Pixar's first fairy tale, and It's being directed filmmaker/writer Brenda Chapman who also directed DreamWorks animated The Prince of Egypt. she got her start an a animation artist for several Disney films such as The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Fantasia 2000, Chicken Run and Cars. And Reese Witherspoon's voice will star in the film. This film will come out in the June 15th 2012.

Here is the synopsis for the film:

A rugged and mythic Scotland is the setting for Pixar's action-adventure "The Bear and the Bow." The impetuous, tangle-haired Merida, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father's kingdom and her mother's life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right. Director Brenda Chapman, and the storytelling wizards of Pixar conjure humor, fantasy and excitement in this rich Highland tale.

I'm excited for both of these films and there's no doubt all the kids will be excited as well.
