We now Officially have a Director for BREAKING DAWN
It's been a while folks, but I am back and ready to write.
The Associated Press today announced that the director the the next installment of the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, will be Bill Condon.
BC has helmed such movies as Gods and Monsters, Dreamgirls, and Kinsey.
I was relieved that David Slade(Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) had taken the directors chair for the third installment of the Saga. I am not the hugest fan of the franchise, but I felt that Slade could bring a certain something to the film that would make it watchable. Judging by the trailer that was recently released, he has done just that. He brings a certain darkness to his films that I feel will make this the best film of the Saga.
Unfortunately, I think the hiring of Condon is going to be a step back. It's not that he's a bad director, I just don't think he can get dark enough to make the movie interesting. He has tried his hand at horror before with Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh. But he has stuck to more of the drama end of the spectrum lately in his career.
With this all said, I am not the one that makes the decisions in Hollywood. Apparently they see something in BC that I don't and I hope the best for them. This film, based on the fans of the book series, will make a lot of money. That is just fine with me. As a fan of film, I am just happy to see that people are going out and supporting an art form that I truly love. Until next time, let me know what you think.
