Actor Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) is currently in negotiations to star in DreamWorks attempt to remake the classic 1985 vampire flick Fright Night. The film is being directed by Craig Gillespie, who also developed Lars and the real Girl. Fright Night is definitely a different film than the quirky indie dramady, but he seems like a solid director.
I’m not a big of this movie being remade. The original film was a favorite of mine while growing up. But, I like Yelchin as an actor, he’s always entertaining to watch in the films that he makes so I'm sure he'll do alright in this one. He will take on the lead role of Charlie Brewster.
The new film is going to stick extremely close to the original film, the story will stay the same which follows Charlie Brewster who believes that his next door neighbor Jerry Dandridge is a vampire. His belief is strengthened when mysterious deaths of girls are reported. When Dandridge confronts Charlie in his own bedroom one night and tries to kill him, Charlie concludes that the monster must be destroyed. But since nobody believes his story he enlists the help of Peter Vincent, the vampire killer from his favorite horror TV show, who is in fact skeptical about vampires existing for real.
I guess we can hope the remake ends up being good, but just because we have hope doesn’t mean it will happen.
