PLANET OF THE APES Prequel Start Shooting this Summer?

According to Production Weekly’s twitter, 20th Century Fox is going to start production on their new Planet of the Apes prequel that’s been titled Ceasar: Rise of the Apes. The studio has opened up production offices at Mammoth Studios in Durnaby, BC, which is just right outside Vancover. They also report that shooting will start in mid-July.

We’ve known this was coming for awhile now, but I hoped the production would kinda just fade away. I was hoping it would never make it into production, but it looks like the film is set and almost ready to roll.

Last month Fox hired the film's director Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist). He will develop the film from a script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

The new film will show how genetic experiments on apes led to their evolutionary eclipse of humans. Caesar refers to the genetically altered leader of the simian rebellion, so dubbed because the ape was capable of grand strategic thinking on par with Julius Ceasar. The Caesar code name also foreshadowed the script's plot: Like the actual Julius Caesar, the ape begins a guerrilla war and emerges the emperor of the known world.

Are you excited that a Planet of the Apes prequel is being made? Or do you just want them to stop?
