IRON MAN 2 hits $128 million, 5th highest opening weekend ever! And a Rant about Downey Jr's Awesomeness

I didn't see Iron Man 2 opening weekend. Please get off my back about it. I can tell you, however, that the Jon Favreau directed superhero flick pulled in an estimated $133 million for its opening weekend, making it the 5th highest of all time. Box Office Numbers are courtesy of boxofficemojo.com.

I can't wait to see Iron Man 2, but it may be a while before the misses and I can coordinate our schedules to do so. In the meantime, let me know your thoughts on the blockbuster.

I will say this; many of you are coming to my Robert Downey Jr. Party VERY late. All of a sudden, this guy is finally a major superstar. He's got two serious franchises now, with Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes, and people are finally realizing how awesome he can be, when he's not on drugs!

If you want to atone for your sin of not showing Downey the respect he deserves sooner, follow these steps:

  1. Take a trip back in time and watch Weird Science and Back to School. Notice how funny he is in those movies. You'll see he is much more than just another comedic player. He's got skills.
  2. Watch the 1992 movie Chaplin, the biopic that featured Downey in the title role and garnered him his first Oscar nomination.
  3. Find Wonder Boys (2000). Watch it. Michael Douglas is awesome in it, but Downey also gives a remarkable supporting performance.
  4. Find Ally McBeal, season 4. Robert Downey Jr.won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his work on the FOX comedy.

I know Iron Man 2 has some major Hollywood stars, a wonderful young director, a huge budget, and dazzling special effects, but I can promise you it would be seriously lacking without Robert Downey Jr. I am very excited he is finally getting the proper recognition for his work. JUST STAY CLEAN, ROBERT!
