Movie Sucker PunchIMAX by Joey Paur

It was announced recently that both Zack Snyder's new film Sucker Punch and Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil: Afterlife are getting IMAX 3D releases. I'm looking forward to seeing both films, but I don't feel the need to throw away ten extra bucks to see them in IMAX 3D. But, if that's something you feel you gotta do, then by all means do it. In the end Sucker Punch is going to be the better more badass film.

Sucker Punch

Sucker Punch follows a little girl who is trying to hide from the pain caused by her evil stepfather and lobotomy. She ends up in mental institution and while there she starts to imagine alternative reality. She plans to escape from that imaginary world but to do that she needs to steal five objects before she is caught by a vile man. Story is set in 1950's.

IMAX Corporation, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that director Zack Snyder's next big action thriller Sucker Punch 3D will be released to IMAX theatres simultaneously with the film's domestic release on March 25, 2011. The film is part of the previously announced agreement between Warner Bros. and IMAX to release up to 20 Warner Bros. films in IMAX's format over the course of the next three and a half years (from 2010 through 2013). Sucker Punch 3D will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with IMAX DMR technology.

"As we have seen in the past, Zack Snyder's films are ideally suited to IMAX's powerful format, and we're very excited to add 'Sucker Punch 3D' to our growing lineup of IMAX releases," said Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

"Zack Snyder's unique vision and successful track-record makes him an important member of the IMAX family and we're looking forward to his next film, which we believe is a great addition to our line up of exciting Warner Bros. films," said Richard L. Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. "Our digital theatre system has accelerated the growth of our theatre network and provides us with significant flexibility in the release and programming schedule in our theatres, which enables us to offer this film to even more fans of Zack Snyder and IMAX."

"Zack Snyder embraces the IMAX format in a truly unique way, and by way of his past IMAX releases, he has created his own unique brand of The IMAX Experience that audiences love," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "This is a very welcome addition to our Warner Bros. slate of "all-star" titles and we're looking forward to opening day next March."

"The growing international IMAX theater network will enable us to offer the premium IMAX release of 'Sucker Punch 3D' to a wider audience, introducing even more moviegoers to the winning combination of Zack Snyder's vision and IMAX's powerful format," added Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead - and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

IMAX Corporation and Sony Pictures Releasing today announced that Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment of the popular film series based on the video game, will be released to digital IMAX theatres simultaneously with the film's wide release on September 10, 2010.

The film, which was photographed in 3D, will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology and presented in IMAX 3D. IMAX says, "The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique immersive environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie."

"In 3D, fans of 'Resident Evil' will have a whole new way to enjoy this next exciting chapter, and we're delighted that audiences will also have the opportunity to experience the film in IMAX 3D at digital IMAX locations, where they will feel like they are virtually in the movie," said Rory Bruer, President, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing.

"Our ability to include 'Resident Evil' into the IMAX lineup for 2010 is a direct result of the growing IMAX theatre network, and we're excited to work once again with Sony Pictures to reach the vast fan-base for this series," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "Our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment is growing with our digital theatre network, and we're looking forward to continued success with them as we open more theatres, release more event films and expand our audience globally."
