Sam Worthington to Star in QUATERMAIN

Hollywood's new action film star Sam Worthington has attached himself to star in and produce an new DreamWorks sci-fi action film called Quatermain. This is the first film that Worthington will have a producer credit on, and he will do it right along side Smallville producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

The film is actually based on a couple novels by H. Rider Haggard. The main character in the book is named Allan Quatermain, and the first book is called King Solomon’s Mines. In the book, Quatermain leads an expedition into an unexplored region of Africa to find the brother of a friend as well as a fabled treasure of the lost mines.

The version DreamWorks is developing takes place in a future where humans have left Earth and sees Quatermain return to the planet from a sojourn in space, embarking on another King Solomon’s Mines-style adventure but on a planetwide scale.

This film is still very early in the development stages, but it sounds like it could end up being a really fun sci-fi action adventure with a fun classic retro pulp story feel to it.

The book was written in 1885 and at the time is was hailed by his publishers as "THE MOST AMAZING BOOK EVER WRITTEN." It is also the first English fictional adventure novel set in Africa, and is considered to be the genesis of the Lost World literary genre.

I'm sure Worthington will do a fine job as the lead character of the story.
