David Fincher to Direct 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA!
Oh, hell yeah! This is a much better director choice than that annoying McG fella that killed the Terminator franchise. For those of you who didn't know McG was originally supposed to direct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but thankfully, that all fell apart.
Now Disney is currently in negotiations with director David Fincher to develop the classic Jules Verne story! How freakin awesome is that! I'm excited for this because Fincher is one of my favorite filmmakers. This is the man that brought us Seven, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac, and The Curious case of Benjamin Button.
The studio is also in talks with Screenwriter Scott Z. Burnes to adapt the story for film. He wrote The Bourne Ultimatum, so there's no complaint's on the writer front either.
This whole deal came together after Fincher approached Disney's new production head Sean Bailey with the desire to take on a tentpole movie project that is a departure from his darker R-rated films.
Fincher is known for the meticulous detail that he puts into his movies, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is full great little details. I can't wait to see what Fincher does with this story, I have no doubt the film will look amazing and be an incredibly fun adventure. Fincher has never had a problem telling good story so I'm sure he will show the Jules Vern story a great amount of respect when developing it for the big screen.
The story follows a French professor of marine biology who is taken prisoner aboard the rogue submarine Nautilus in 1873. He travels an underwater world with his captors, while discovering the philosophy and technical knowledge of the vessel's strange Captain Nemo--Latin for "no one." Battling giant sea creatures, collecting sunken gold, and sinking enemy ships.
I absolutely loved the 1954 Disney film with Kirk Douglas, but I just can't help but be excited to see what Fincher will bring us.
What do you all think about fincher taking on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?
