Vampire Action Novel BLOOD OATH Getting Big Screen Adaptation

Movie by Joey Paur

I was beginning to think Hollywood forgot about vampires, there seems to have been a shortage of them recently. But that's okay because it looks like we may have a new vampire franchise coming! (I'm being sarcastic)

Lucas Foster and his production company Warp Films picked up the screen rights to a novel written by Christopher Farnsworth called Blood Oath, which is described as a vampire action novel that revolves around a vampire secret agent. Here is the description of the story.

Zach Barrows is an ambitious young White House staffer whose career takes an unexpected turn when he's partnered with Nathaniel Cade, a secret agent sworn to protect the president. But Cade is no ordinary civil servant. Bound by a special blood oath, Cade has spent more than 140 years in service to the president, battling nightmares before they can break into the daylight world of the American dream.

Immediately Zach and Cade receive their first joint assignment: one that uncovers a shadowy government conspiracy and a plot to attack the Unites States with a gruesome new biological weapon. Zach soon learns that the world is far stranger, and far more dangerous, than he ever imagined . . . and that his partner is the least of his problems.

So here we have a story about a vampire James Bond, or a vampire Jack Bauer. I'm not sure I buy into this, it sounds pretty cheesy. Foster who has produced films such as Law Abiding Citizen and Mr. and Mrs. Smith explains why he picked up the rights to this book,

It always starts with the character for me, Cade has an amazing history, a great attitude and a great set of powers. He is a complete movie figure. It’s a big idea and it’s an idea that in the wrong hands could have been cheesy. He did a very good job of making the reader, and me, buy it. It’s the right tone between thriller and improbable fantasy.

Yeah, as of right now I still don't buy into it. The novel, Blood Oath, comes out on Tuesday and Fransworth is currently writing the sequel called Black Site. Scripts are being written for both novels simultaneously. Foster is using his own money to develop these films as of right now, and he hopes to get the film into production next year.

What are your thoughts on the vampire secret agent story?
