Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Spend a Lot of Money to go LIGHTSPEED

$3.5 million dollars. That's how much Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films payed for a pitch from Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii. That's one the the biggest pitch sales of the year! $3.5 million dollars is an incredible about of money for a movie pitch! Can you imagine!? It's amazing that they are willing to drop that kind of cash on a movie idea. It's seriously hard to believe, but it happened. So what idea did they spend that kind of money on?

The film will be an epic space adventure called Lightspeed, and the story centers on a young pilot who makes the Earth Interstellar Racing Team and must take his ship on a perilous journey across the galaxy on the brink of war. The movie will be a live-action project that will most likely end up being a 3D movie. 

Sounds like it could be a pretty fun sci-fi space adventure, but was the pitch really worth that kind of money? I just can't get over how much was spent to acquire the rights to this pitch. Its not like the two guys that came up with the story have done anything special, they wrote the film Deja Vu, which I thought was a pretty weak script and film. Disney and Bruckheimer paid mid-seven figures for that Deja Vu script in 2004, which marked the highest spec sale ever at the time. 

Bruckheimer and Russio seem to have a pretty solid business relationship, which is why I believe they paid so much money for this movie idea. They worked together on the Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure franchises.
