SOAPDISH Being Remade By Paramount Pictures
The question is why? The original Soapdish came out in 1991, which had a great little cast that included Kevin Kline, Sally Field, Robert Downey, Jr., and Whoopi Goldberg, among several others. But just because it had a good cast didn't mean it did well at the box office, because it didn't. The ensemble comedy only brought in about $36 million dollars. The film isn't really a classic film, I don't see it having a built in audience, and I haven't seen the film in ages so I really don't have an opinion on the matter, other than this is another typical Hollywood remake.
I imagine Paramount sees the film as an opportunity for them to put together a new young high profile ensemble cast for the film, much like the film She's Just Not That Into You. Pajiba say's The remake will center around a telenovela, which is a limited-run television serial melodrama popular in Latin America and the Philippines. Why don't the just say soap opera?
The remake is being produced by the great Rob Reiner which adds some weight to this remake. Reiner has made some amazing movie in his career. The original movie follows an actress named Celeste Talbert who has been the queen of the soaps for over two decades. Montana Moorehead needs to get her out of her way before she can move on and begins her program to get her to leave. She hires an old boyfriend of Celeste to be on the show and has Celeste become a murderer in the script, but each attempt has unforseen consequences.
Any thoughts on this film being remade? Are their any die hard Soapdish fans out there excited for this?
