Steven Speilberg’s Next Film Will Be WAR HORSE

Director Steven Speilberg has finally selected his next directing film project! He will be adapting a World War I novel by Michael Morpurgo, that DreamWorks acquired in 2009 called War Horse.

If there one thing Speilberg knows how to direct with a master artists touch, it’s movies about war. The guy just does it beautifully. Empire of the Sun is my favorite Speilberg film of all time, and I’m ready to see Speilberg take on another war film project.

Here’s the description of the story from the novel, which sounds like a classic uplifting Speilberg story. Even the cover of the book seen above has the classic Speilberg silhouette shot on it:

In 1914, Joey, a beautiful bay-red foal with a distinctive cross on his nose, is sold to the army and thrust into the midst of the war on the Western Front. With his officer, he charges toward the enemy, witnessing the horror of the battles in France. But even in the desolation of the trenches, Joey's courage touches the soldiers around him and he is able to find warmth and hope. But his heart aches for Albert, the farmer's son he left behind. Will he ever see his true master again?

The book is being adapted for the big screen  by screenwriters Lee Hall and Richard Curtis. Spielberg is producing with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest. The film adaptation will be released on August 10th, 2011.

The question is do I read the book and spoil the movie? Yes, I probably will.

What do you all think about Speilberg’s next film project?
