Just a quick question before we begin... have you ever dreamed about the man you see in the picture above?
The director of The Strangers Bryan Bertino has found his next film project, and it's a pretty interesting story, from an already existing concept and fact. I thought The Strangers was a great horror film, and I've been looking forward to seeing what the director would end up doing next.
Bertino has entered in a deal with producer Sam Raimi and his horror film production company Ghost House Pictures. It is there he will write and direct a new horror thriller called This Man. The story follows an ordinary man who discovers that people he has never met have somehow seen him in their nightmares. This film is based off of a great hoax.
Ghost House has acquired rights to a website that was created by Italian sociologist Andrea Natella to connect those who saw the actual man in their dreams. The website is called ThisMan.org. The site claimed to chronicle the fact that people all over the world have seen that man’s face in their dreams. Of course it wasn't real, it was created by Natella. It sure isn't a bad idea for a movie though! They just turn the already existing concept on it's head, and base the story on the guy that people are dreaming about.
Here’s the ‘history’ of ThisMan, as presented on the website:
In January 2006 in New York, the patient of a well-known psychiatrist draws the face of a man that has been repeatedly appearing in her dreams. In more than one occasion that man has given her advice on her private life. The woman swears she has never met the man in her life.
That portrait lies forgotten on the psychiatrist’s desk for a few days until one day another patient recognizes that face and says that the man has often visited him in his dreams. He also claims he has never seen that man in his waking life.
The psychiatrist decides to send the portrait to some of his colleagues that have patients with recurrent dreams. Within a few months, four patients recognize the man as a frequent presence in their own dreams. All the patients refer to him as THIS MAN.
From January 2006 until today, at least 2000 people have claimed they have seen this man in their dreams, in many cities all over the world: Los Angeles, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Tehran, Beijing, Rome, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris, New Dehli, Moskow etc.
Ghost House confirmed the deal with Raimi calling the film “a hair raising story that will be sure to delight horror fans.” I can't wait to see this thing! It's such a great concept that has the potential to be a fun horror thriller, and I think Bryan Bertino has the talent and creativity to make a great film.
What do you think about the idea behind The Man?
