First Look at Hugh Jackman and Boxing Robot in REAL STEEL

Hey Gang! Looks like we've got our first look at Hugh Jackman's new movie, Real Steel. Based on the classic Twilight Zone episode called Steel. I am really hoping this movie turns out to be good, and that director Shawn Levy does the original story justice.

Jackman is set to play the lead character in the film, which is the Rocky-esque tale of a fighter who has to reinvent himself when human boxing becomes obsolete, replaced by 2000 pound human-like robots. He will play the ex-fighter, who becomes a Robot Boxing promoter, but whose chances of success are hampered by his access to sub-standard robot parts. That is until he discovers a discarded robot named Atom that always seems to win. The ex-fighter has also discovered he's the father of a 13-year old son Max, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top.

The boxing robots will be brought to life in the film using both CGI motion capture technology, right along with 19 real life actual animatronic boxing robots! This picture you see below is not CGI, that is a real robot that the actors are able to interact with. This mixture of CGI and live action was encouraged by Steven Spielberg who is executive producer on the film. Levy has this to say,

There are some things only visual effects can pull off. But when you give an actor a real thing, in this case a real 8-foot-tall machine, to interact with and do dialogue opposite, you get a more grounded reality to the performance.

From the image below, it looks like this could end up being a very cool looking movie. The cinematography looks great, but I'd like to see more of the Robot, especially in full on boxing action. Check out the production photo, and let us know what you think about it!
