E3 First Impressions: TRON Evolution

TRON Evolution is a prequel game to the upcoming TRON Legacy film, set to hit theaters later this year. This was one of my most highly anticipated games to play at E3, and it did not disappoint.

The demo I played allowed the user to get into two distinct game types: the first is a third person fighting game, much like the style of Assassin's Creed or Batman: Arkham Asylum. You get to do parkour (running up walls, etc.) and throw the light rings as weapons (unlimited supply!). This part of the game highlights combo moves used to take out various sentries in the computer world known as the Grid.

The second part of the demo was - you guessed it - the light cycles. There are two views you can choose from, but I preferred the one that puts the camera right down behind the rider's head, giving a real sense of speed and danger as you traverse the roads of the computer world with obstacles popping up at every turn. If you get a chance to play this game, I'd highly recommend it: it's a lot of fun.

Adding to the awesomeness, Disney brought a full size light cycle to the convention center and had it set up right outside the TRON Evolution demo room. Check out the footage below.
