Tom Hiddleston Joins Steven Spielberg's WAR HORSE
It looks like Tom Hiddleston has been cast in a lead role for Steven Spielberg's new World War I film War Horse, which is based on on the novel by Michael Morpurgo. The nameHiddleston probably sounds familiar to you because he plays Loki in Marvel's upcoming film adaptation of Thor.
Last week it was reported that Eddie Redmayne would take on the role of Albert in the film, but that has yet to be confirmed. The story follows Albert and his horse Joey who is sold to the army and thrust into war on the western front. Albert sets out on a mission to save his horse. If Redmayne is playing Albert then Hiddleston is most likely taking the role of the military officer who rides the horse into battle, or vice-versa.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Spielberg does with this film, and I like the actors who he is looking to cast. I think it's great that they aren't the big name actors that he works with over and over again.
Here's the synopsis from the book:
In 1914, Joey, a beautiful bay-red foal with a distinctive cross on his nose, is sold to the army and thrust into the midst of the war on the Western Front. With his officer, he charges toward the enemy, witnessing the horror of the battles in France. But even in the desolation of the trenches, Joey's courage touches the soldiers around him and he is able to find warmth and hope. But his heart aches for Albert, the farmer's son he left behind. Will he ever see his true master again?
