E3 First Impressions: Marvel vs. Capcom 3

I'm coming to you live from the convention floor at E3 2010 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where Dr. Venkman and I just finished a rousing round of the latest Marvel vs. Capcom game. I just wanted to relay some brief thoughts on it.

The demo that we played (naturally) featured way less characters than will appear in the final version, but still had a good mix of superheros (Iron Man, Captain America, etc) and classic Capcom characters (Ryu, etc). It's exactly what you would expect from a new addition to this popular series, but the graphics are actually way better than I expected. These games are not generally well regarded for their graphics, but the image quality was really impressive and looked fantastic in high definition.

We played on a joystick/button system reminiscent of an actual arcade controller, and I think (don't quote me on this) that I saw these systems for sale elsewhere on the convention floor. If I'm not mistaken, you'll be able to purchase one of these platforms and utilize it in place of a typical PS3 or XBox controller. Anyway, the fighting mechanics were wildly chaotic, and Venkman and I had no clue what were doing - so we turned into "those guys," just randomly smashing buttons and hoping for the best. Obviously, we were in a bit of a rush (the line behind us was huge), so with any amount of time spent on the game I'm sure the controls will become a lot easier to navigate.

Check out the footage below, and let us know what you think in the comments.
