Cast Announced For Steven Spielberg's WAR HORSE
War Horse will be Steven Spielberg's first film since Indiana Jones: Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. I'm really looking forward to see what Spielberg does with this inspiring story that takes place during World War I. I definitely like the cast he has put together. According to Empire Emily Watson, Peter Mullan (Braveheart, Session 9), David Thewlis (Harry Potter) and Benedict Cumberbatch have all signed on to star in War Horse, but playing the lead in the film is a young actor named Jeremy Irvine.
Rounding out the full cast are Niels Arestrup (A Prophet, The Diving Bell And The Butterfly) as the grandfather of a young French girl (Celine Buckens) who takes Joey in, plus Nicolas Bro, David Kross, Leonard Carow, Rainer Bock, Robert Emms and Patrick Kennedy. And it was previously reported that Tom Hiddleston (Thor) is in talks to join the cast, as well as Stephen Graham from Snatch.
The film takes place in 1914, and follows a horse by the name of Joey, a beautiful bay-red foal with a distinctive cross on his nose. Joey is sold to the army and thrust into battle on the Western Front. With his officer, he charges toward the enemy, witnessing the horror of the battles in France. But even in the desolation of the trenches, Joey's courage touches the soldiers around him and he is able to find warmth and hope. But his heart aches for Albert, the farmer's son he left behind.
So what do you think about this great cast?
