Daniel Radcliffe Attached to Star in ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT Remake

Now that Daniel Radcliffe is finished with the Harry Potter movie franchise he can do what ever the hell he wants to do! So what does he do? He ends up taking the lead role in a remake of a film that has no business being remade... All Quiet of the Western Front, a movie classic! Daniel will take on the role of Paul Baumer.

Variety says that producing duo Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson wrote the script and will produce through their Sliding Down Rainbows Entertainment production company. There is no studio attached to the film yet, but with Radciffe on board with a remake of a film that won Best Picture 1930, I'm sure funding and studio backing isn't far behind.

Daniel brings a vulnerability and innocence to Paul. When we realized how much he loved the script we were really excited because we know he can tap into the delicate balance between intensity and believability that is critical for this demanding role.

They will begin shooting the film in the spring of 2012. Here is a description of the story that was originally written by Erich Maria Remaraue:

Paul Baumer enlisted with his classmates in the German army of World War I. Youthful, enthusiastic, they become soldiers. But despite what they have learned, they break into pieces under the first bombardment in the trenches. And as horrible war plods on year after year, Paul holds fast to a single vow: to fight against the principles of hate that meaninglessly pits young men of the same generation but different uniforms against each other--if only he can come out of the war alive.

What are your thoughts on this film being remade, and Radcliffe being cast in the lead role?
