The Lion King Goes 3D and a Roger Rabbit Sequel Update

Empire caught up with Disney Producer Don Hahn when he was up in the UK to check in on Tim Burton's Frankenweenie film and promote the Beauty and the Beast blu-ray. He confirmed to them that there are plans for a theatrical release of The Lion King in 3D.

I’m actually trying to work out a 3D conversion of The Lion King. I’ll be doing that when I go back to the States in a couple of weeks.

Though the conversion process is still in the very early stages, the plan is for The Lion King to follow the upcoming 3D version of Beauty and the Beast, set for release sometime in 2011.

Hahn went on to briefly discuss the potential Roger Rabbit sequel, saying only,

Yeah, I couldn’t possibly comment. I deny completely, but yeah… if you’re a fan, pretty soon you’re going to be very, very, very happy.

So I guess you could say a Roger Rabbit sequel is most likely going to happen, which could be awesome if done right.

Now some bad news for Disney fans. Apparently the hand-drawn animated film The Snow Queen has been put on hold, because they haven't been able to come up with a strong script yet. But just because it's been put on hold doesn't mean the movie wont eventually happen, he explains,

It’s actually been tabled right now…we don’t have the story. It’s a bit like Beauty And The Beast, which sat there for years…The Snow Queen we’ve had a lot of trouble with and I’ve spent years on it. I love it and I think it’s one of the last great fairy tales. It’s kind of crappy that it’s just sitting there right now.

Like always Disney is keeping busy. Hopefully they can eventually pull the Snow Queen film together.
