Wanted Director and Universal to Remake Russian Film BLACK LIGHTNING in English

Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov is currently in discussions with Universal Pictures to remake his hit Russian sci-fi superhero film Black Lightning for American audiences.

Hell, I was excited for to see the original Russian version, but it looks like we are going to get a remake of the film before the original version ever hits the states. The movie was suppose to be the Russian response to films like Transformers and Batman

Black Lightning tells the story of a student from Moscow University who becomes the owner of an ordinary looking car. He finds out that the car is able to fly, and unexpectedly finds himself in a role as a defender of the city against evil doers.

Bekmambetov also said there were plans for a Russian-Chinese sequel to Black Lightning. He is currently working with Tim Burton on developing Seth Grahame-Smith's best-selling book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter into a film. Bekmambetov says of that film...

This will be a serious but entertaining movie that deals with the most interesting and powerful person of the 19th century within an imaginary scenario that he was also an ax-wielding vampire hunter.

What do you all think about an English version of Black Lightning being developed?
