Brett Ratner Producing Live Action SNOW WHITE Film

It's been a long time since we've reported on anything that has to do with Brett Ratner, and I gotta say... it's been kinda nice. But he's back in the news as being one of a few producers bringing Snow White back to the big screen... live-action, gritty, hardcore style.

Disney will have no part in this The Brothers Grimm: Snow White film. Relativity Media has made a preemptive acquisition of a script written by Melisa Wallack which is based on the classic German folk tale. Of course Ratner has to hype up the film saying,

This is not your grandfather's Snow White. Melisa went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney's film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we're going to do.

Bam! He just said that! I'm sorry but the original Disney Snow White is still pretty frightening. All of the Snow White films have been based on the German folk tale, but this from what it sounds like this new one will follow the Grimm Brothers story a lot more closely. Since Tim Burton made Alice in Wonderland it seems like rebooting fairy tales is the new fad in Hollywood. Just recently Disney picked up a live-action pitch for Cinderella, there are several different incarnations of The Wizard of Oz in development one of which Guillermo Del Toro is rumored to be in talks to direct, and then Burton is doing a Sleeping Beauty film focused on the villain Maleficent.

The writer of the new Snow White script will make a cool million bucks if the project makes it to production. We can only hope Ratner doesn't end up directing the movie. If done right this new Snow White film could be pretty cool. What do you all think?
